Extend the existing schedulers with methodologies proper to tight-coupled applications.

Disaggregated Memory

OpenCUBE leverages aspects of disagregated memory as a means to boost efficiency in the servers.

OBJECTIVES

Allow both HPC and Cloud applications to efficiently use disaggregated memory.

CHALLENGES

The usage of disaggregated memory currently relies on upcoming protocols or hardware, such as CXL.

SOLUTIONS

Develop software tools that can leverage disaggregated memory, such as emulator or poolers.

Workflows

OpenCUBE makes use of different applications workflows to showcase its stack, while also providing efficient resource management.

OBJECtiVES

Bring HPC workflows into cloud-first system, such as Apache Airflow, and execute HPC workflows in the cloud, such as molecular docking.

CHALLENGES

Many applications are monolithic or do not have a proper established workflow.

SOLUTIONS

Develop such workflows with a cloud-first mentality.

Driver Workloads

OpenCUBE leverages different workloads from the HPC domain as a means to test and validate its cloud stack.

Weather forecasting

The IFS software is a major European resource representing many years of investment by ECMWF and its Member States. The IFS has been developed for over 30 years and it runs operationally, providing time-critical global forecasts several times per day.

space weather and machine learning

iPIC3D is an open-source C++ and MPI Particle-in-Cell code for the simulation of space plasma. The workflow will run iPIC3D simulation on the HPC partition with ML classification of simulation results on the cloud partition.

High-throughput molecular docking for drug discovery

AutoDock software, one of the most used software for molecular docking will be used to test on widely used databases, such as DrugBank database, Enamine database, ZINC15, and Cambridge.
